Retreat faq’s

  • The group size will be 10-12 to ensure that we can give a personalised and bespoke retreat experience to all participants.

    The group will be made up of like-minded women who are there to support each other.

  • All sorts of people!

    Of course, the retreat is for anyone who wants to reduce their current stress levels and needs to improve their current levels of motivation and life direction. The group will all be like-minded, and we ensure a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere for everyone.

    We’ve had senior executives who want time and space away from their busy day jobs;

    Mother and daughters who want to take time together and have a life-changing experience;

    Women who have just started their careers and need some direction and focus.

    Friends who want to enjoy a transformational few days together.

    Women who have recently retired and want to set some goals for the new stage of their life.

    Women who are in burnout and need a space to reflect and recover.

    Women who want to transform their wellbeing and need a kickstart and support.

    We welcome everyone from age 18+ we will do our absolute upmost to make sure everyone, no matter why they are here, gets the retreat experience that they need.

  • Of course, you will quickly make new connections and be part of a great support system at the retreat.

  • All rooms are single occupancy to give participants the space and privacy that is required to get the most out of the retreat experience.

    Twin rooms are available for people attending together – friends, siblings, couples etc. This is a booking option. However, if we do get requests from two people travelling on their own who would like to share, we could also offer a shared room. Please contact us if this is your preference.

    If you do share with a friend or family member we are happy to offer a reduction in price to reflect this. Please see booking for prices.

  • The rooms are luxuriously spacious double or king rooms with a private en-suite. All bedrooms have a lakeland and/or woodland view. Some of the rooms can be made up into a twin if you’d like to share with a friend.

  • There is complimentary wi-fi in all the rooms, as well as in common areas of the house.

  • Yes, Simon, our private chef can cater to dietary needs. Please talk to us about your requirements and we will be happy to help.

  • No, it is not a vegetarian retreat. We will be following a semi-vegetarian menu with all meats and fish locally sourced and organic wherever possible.

    However if you do need a vegetarian or vegan menu of course this will be catered for.

  • Organic wine will be served with dinner and we ask that guests refrain from bringing their own alcohol. We wish for you to get the most out of the retreat and to do so you will need clarity of mind and vitality, over consumption of alcohol may prevent this.

    However we do appreciate people enjoy wine at meal times (us included!) and we will provide this.

  • We encourage you to take part in all the activities as this will ensure you get the most out of your retreat experience. However we want everyone who attends to feel comfortable as this is your time so ultimately it's always completely your choice.

  • The walks are moderate with some inclines. The Mountain Leader will provide a safe, educational and challenging walk which is suitable for people with moderate levels of fitness.

    The walk on the first day enables you to take in and familiarise yourself with the estate and its magnificent scenery. It’s also the perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow retreaters as we walk, chat and connect.

    The next guided walk will be on the 3rd day and this will take in the nearby Wainwrights and higher level views. If fitness levels are varied we will offer 2 levels of walk.

  • Our retreats are suitable for all levels and abilities. It may be useful to take a class before attending a retreat but it is not compulsory.

    We have all yoga levels from beginners to advanced, and our teacher will modify the classes so you can practise, feel the benefits but most importantly feel comfortable.

  • The yoga will be accessible to everyone. The classes will be a mix of Hatha and Vinyasa flow yoga but the main focus is relaxation, finding some inner peace, mindful movement and connecting to the breath. There will be challenges for those that want and additional yoga classes if we have attendees with a lot of experience who want to go much deeper into postures.

    Each class will have a specific focus or theme. Such as;

    Early morning wake up flow, restorative candle lit yoga & soundbath, Yoga for intention setting and yoga & pilates for strength & energy. Integral to all of the classes will be; Pranayama (Breathwork) to settle and calm the nervous system.

  • No, this isn’t necessary as we have the fantastic Gilly Mcarthur & Wayne Singleton to introduce you to our Lake on the first morning. Gilly will give a safety brief and then lead a guided swim. You will then have the confidence to access the Lake as you wish for a cold water dip or swim throughout the retreat as you will be aware of the safest entry points and hazards.

    Gilly is an advocate for the benefits of cold water and swimming without a wetsuit. Although you are also very welcome to wear one. If you don’t own one we can direct you to a hire service.

    For more experienced wild swimmers there will be a longer more challeging swim.

  • Yes, you will need to complete two psychometric reports before attending the retreat. These reports will give you a detailed insight into your personality and current levels of resilience. You will receive your reports at the retreat.

  • Arrival is 3pm on Day 1. Departure is by 10am on day 4.

  • Yes, the manor house has plenty of parking available.

  • The easiest train station to get to is Oxenholme in Kendal. There is a direct train from London Euston which takes just over 3 hours. Silverholme is then a very easy 30 minute taxi ride. We chose this area of the Lakes for its accessibility by car or train. The train is particularly convenient as it allows you to work or relax during your travel. It’s also an exceptionally beautiful journey.

    If you are joining us from outside the UK. The easiest airports to fly into would be Manchester or Leeds Bradford. Silverholme is then a 2 hour transfer by car.

  • If you plan to swim on your own outside of the supervised session you will need a swim safety buoy to ensure that you remain visible in the water.

    Footwear for swimming - wetsuit boots or water shoes.

    Gilly will be encouraging us to swim without wetsuits. However, if you feel that you would prefer one and you don’t have your own these can easily be hired online and brought with you. We recommend you opt for an open water swim wetsuit (slightly thinner & more comfortable for breaststroke swimming) rather than a tight triathlon model. These can be hired online via www.triwetsuithire.co.uk

    Hiking boots or sturdy trainers for the walks.

    A rucksack for your waterproofs & packed lunch.

  • All participants will receive follow-up support by phone and email. You will receive printed materials to help you embed the learning. You will also be given access to 'Resilient You' which is an online course delivered by Caroline Dakin to ensure that you are able to continue your resilience journey. In addition, you will receive follow up Yoga videos to continue your practice at home.
